MAKE UPS AND BREAK UPS 2008

+

++++++

It's been a while since I've made one of these compilations.
I started around 1996 with the first Make Ups and Break Ups cd.
2008 marks the first one that I've done completely via the web.

I've been thinking and reflecting about my life at this moment in
time and wanted to share with my friends and strangers alike,
music that I enjoy that help me through the good and bad times.

Lali Puna's cover of Phil Oakey & Giorgio Moroder's "Together in Electric Dreams" set to scenes from Wong Kar Wai's 2046. +++ For Panda, this song is for you, I wish it could be this easy.
I like the male/female back and forth vocals as well as the deep emotional lyrics. It's a paradox of feelings that comes and goes and truly expresses how we've all felt in life and love.
Second single from the second album "Apocalypso" by Syndey's electro duo, The Presets, this is VERY poppy for these guys. Filmed live for triple J!
Amazing song from the lp Bright Like Neon Love.
This is a live video of Hearts on Fire, by Cut Copy, from the second album In Ghost Colours.
Radiohead's cover of Joy Division/New Order song from their Thumbs Down webcast Nov 9th 2007.
Another AWESOME group from down under that hails from Sydney. Not only are they awesome Rockers, but they are Amazing Re-Mixers as well. "Strangers" is off the new LP V, off Modular Recordings.
Classic tune by an AMAZING band. Listen to this and maybe you can understand a lot about love.
Film School's a great band from LA. Saw them live at #'s and was hooked! They are super nice guys! This song just kicks your ass doesn't it? Reminds me of the Cure a bit, and the lyrics are great.
Film School's a great band from LA. Saw them live at #'s and was hooked! They are super nice guys! Check them out!
Awesome song by The Knife, one of my favorite duos.
Excellent live performance w Trentemøller feat. Ane Trolle & Mikael Simpson - Evil Dub/Moan, performed live at P3 Guld 2006 (Denmark)!
From the 1996 LP Walking Wounded. This is as REAL as it gets!
"Kingston Town" was a 1970 song by Lord Creator and was covered by UB40 in 1989's Labour of Love II, reaching #4 in the UK. Amazing remake that is as beautiful as it is timeless.
Robyn doing a great acoustic version of this 2007 dance track.
Excellent cover that Will and Alison just did for Jo Whiley's Live Lounge on Feb 8, 2008. Grace release this track as Not Over Yet in 1995 and the Klaxons released it as It's Not Over Yet in 2007.
Live from the Knitting Factory in 1996. Thanks to Julian Rad. The main theme from the motion picture The Sheltering Sky.
Amazing composition by Ryuichi Sakamoto for the movie Wuthering Heights.
I fell in love with this tune when I first heard it in 1985. The title song from the movie "Merry Xmas Mr. Lawrence" which features an all star cast: David Bowie, Tom Conti, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Takeshi Kitano, and directed Nagisa Oshima
A musical reflection of one of my favorite Wong Kar Wai movies.

The longing for a destiny is nowhere stronger than in our romantic life.
All too often forced to share our bed with those who cannot fathom
our soul, can we not be forgiven if we believe ourselves fated to
stumble one day upon the man or woman of our dreams?
Can we not be excused a certain superstitious faith in a creature who

will prove the solution to our relentless yearnings?
And though our prayers may never be answered, though there may
be no end to the dismal cycle of mutual incomprehension, if the heavens
should come to take pity on us, then can we really be expected to
attribute the encounter with this prince or princess to mere coincidence?
Or can we not for once escape rational censure and read it as
nothing other than an inevitable part of our romantic destiny.
