The Twelves" were formed by the duo João Miguel and Luciano Oliveira back in 2006. The name came from the strange coincidence of their birth dates: twelve of july of 1980.
The breakthrough for The Twelves came in July of 2007 when they remixed the track "Boyz" from M.I.A's sophomore album, Kala. The reworked track with an added club feel resulted in one of the most talked about remixes of 2007. The blog coverage surrounding the remix was extensive and eventually the track started to appear in sets from high profile djs around the world, including Kissy Sell Out, who played it on BBC's "In New Djs We Trust" series.
The duo followed "Boyz" with equally well received remixes for Asobi Seksu and Erlend Oye, both of which featured on a number of blogs and music related sites. This stream of good tracks soon caught the attention of a number of labels, including Modular Records (home of Cut Copy, Klaxons and others) who commissioned a "Twelves Remix" of the song "Get Lucky" by New Young Pony Club. The resulting remix was released alongside reworkings from household names like MSTRKRFT and Who Made Who, and received excellent reviews.
Press coverage in Brazil soon started to pick up, with interviews in newspapers and magazines. The coverage led to appearances in festivals and concerts alongside names like Justice, Diplo, LCD Soundsystem, She Wants Revenge, Van She, Phoenix, Groove Armada, etc.
Their live show is a unique blend of live keyboards, drum machines, mash-ups and remixing on the fly. A key element for the duo is trying to improvise as much as possible.

"The Twelves-Works for Me"
you're hanging high on my wall
you're wearing nothing at all
i want to be in your photos from last night
i want to be in your photos from last night
when you make out with your girls at the door
i think it works for me
when you pass out on the bathroom floor
i think it works for me
"The Twelves-When You Talk"
can you just stay around,
while i'm trying hard to
to find and reach you now,
i am lost in this room
this place is very loud
just quit wondering and go
without feeling alone
without caring that much
when you talk, i don't care what it means
shouldn't just stare at you, should i?
when you talk, i don't care what it means
shouldn't just stare at you, should i?
i know you think about
how you like to be seen
by everyone around
you're so pretty it hurts
i'll take you to the ground
and keep you down below
you deserve to be alone
you don't matter that much
when you talk, i don't care what it means
shouldn't just stare at you, should i?
when you talk, i don't care what it means
shouldn't just stare at you, should i?
"Black Kids-Hurricane Jane"
You can't spend the night...
Jane, I've made it plain,
although I'm faded as a ghost:
I want you here inside me.
Say the word.
Oh, you've been playing nice,
but I can see it in your eyes,
you're thinking, "Christ.
He's everybody's girl."
You can't spend the night...
Jane, I've seen you at the club.
You were tearin' up the rug
with no regard for form.
You're such a brute!
You had a ready elbow
for the girls you hate
or just don't know.
You head-butt me,
cos you thought it was cute.
You can't spend the night...
Yes, I'm sure you're right.
You can't spend the night...
Yeah, I'm sure you're right.
You can't spend the night...
Yes, I'm sure you're right.
But we could spend the night together.
Or alone. That would be better.
It's Friday night and I ain't got nobody.
Oh, what's the use of making a bed?
I took something and it feels like karate;
it's kicked me down and left me for dead.
It's Friday night and I ain't got nobody,
so what's the use of pulling a shape?
I put what I want, when I want, in my body.
I'm never gonna give what I take.
Jane, I've seen the pain you've dealt.
You've been with all my friends.
You tell me guard my heart,
I might get hurt.
No doubt you'll hurt my feelings,
and it's a given I'll be kneeling.
But I'm telling myself
that it's gonna be worth it.
"Black Kids- I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You"
You are the girl that I've been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl
You are the girl that I've been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl
One,
I'm biting my tongue
Two,
He's kissin' on you
Three,
Oh, why can't you see?
One! Two! Three! Four!
The word's on the streets and it's on the news:
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance with you.
He's got two left feet and he bites my moves.
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance, dance, dance, dance
The second I do, I know we're gonna be through.
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance with you.
He don't suspect a thing. I wish he'd get a clue.
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance, dance, dance, dance
[x2]
One!
You're biting my tongue.
Two!
I'm kissin' on you.
Three!
Is he better than me?
One! Two! Three! Four!
The word's on the streets and it's on the news:
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance with you.
He's got two left feet and he bites my moves.
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance, dance, dance, dance
